Your New Favourite Band: The Middle East

As a music blogger, my existence depends upon this kind of golden discovery. And, as a recession statistic, my current well-being is totally reliant on hearing pieces of pure music brilliance such as this...

The Middle East are a 6-piece out of Townsville, Australia. They've apparently been around for a while, but having recently signed with Spunk Records, they have just released their first EP, Recordings of the Middle East. Their music is in the same kinda folksy anthem mould of Arcade Fire, but it's the slower acoustic moments and harmonic vocals that provide something else and make this EP truly great. While The Darkest Side and Fools Gold are excellent tracks, Blood is the standout and will be on high-rotation on my ipod for months to come.
The band is set to play a series of dates down the east coast in June and also scored a deserved spot at Splendour in late July. Check out this live performance of Blood in Adelaide back in January...pretty amazing stuff.
