Remix time
2008 for me was a big year for me as it was the first time i had really got involved into the electro scence. It was a great feeling, festival life firstly in the heat of the Australian Summer and then following this up with a brilliant European summer of booze, beaches and babes... But towards the end of 2008, probably to burn out i came to the conclusion that my love for the electro scence was dying and it was time to grow up.. so at the begining of 2009 i decided to give it up there and then... cold turkey.
For the months from January - March I kept my word.. and besides a few social tracks here and there steered clear of it and focused my effort back towards the more tradtionial Rock and Acoustic genres...
But like most good things in life, when you give it up, the memories of how good it was when u were doing it begin, and u start to miss it, slowly but surely the pain builds up. You try your hardest to stay strong and fight it but as the days go, slowly by you feel yourself getting weaker.
And then it begins, and sometimes its something simple that will act as the catalyst to set you off. For me it was the introduction of Daylights Saving. Through this unavoidable event the vicious circle begins. Because with Daylight Saving comes longer days. Longer days leads into warmer weather. Warmer weather leads to Summertime. Summertime means partytime. and Partytime means staying up all night enjoying good music. and late night music means electro!
And so we are back to where it all began about 12 months ago, exited about the prospect of a big Summer of Musica!
Have i learnt anything from my experience? Yes.... Dont try to give up anything alone, there is help out there and going cold turkey after your body has become dependant on something cause serious health issues...
I also have a about 3 months worth of electro to catch up on to keep me busy..
And thats my thoughts from the day... so for those who havent just scrolled to the song links i hope u enjoyed..
Clap to the Electricity Volume 10 the compilation was brought out early 2009. For all you indie rockers out there it features a few great mixes from artists such as Digitalism, Passion Pit, Little Boots, Red Light Company, Mystery Jets, and more.
Another track i cant get out of my head is a brilliant CSS Remix of Buttons by Australian (Adelaide) artist Sia. This track has been played on High rotation on Australia's Triple J and i would expect it to be one of my Anthems leading into this Euro summer.
MP3: Sia - Buttons (CSS Remix)
MP3: Radius - Boeoes Kaelstigen (Andycap Remix)
Mp3: Digitalism - Taken Away (LAZRtag Remix)
MP3: Half in Love - Mystery Jets (Foamo Remix)
